What is Gentle Timer?

Gentle Timer is a low-stimulation visual tool designed to bridge the gap between tasks and rewards. Unlike traditional timers that can feel high-pressure, our "Focus Bridge" uses a minimalist interface to help children, especially those with ADHD, Autism, or Anxiety, visualize the passing of time without sensory overload.

How it Works

  • Set Task: Choose an icon representing the activity (e.g., "Brushing Teeth" or "Homework").
  • Set Reward: Choose a motivating icon for what happens next (e.g., "Bubbles" or "Dance Party").
  • The Bridge: Start the timer. The visual progress bar helps the child see exactly how much "work" is left before the "fun" begins.

Why Visual Timers Work

For neurodivergent minds, "time blindness" can make transitions feel abrupt and scary. Visual timers provide:

  • Predictability: Reduces the "startle" effect of a sudden transition.
  • Autonomy: Allows a child to monitor their own progress without constant verbal prompts from a parent.
  • Regulation: The slow, steady visual change is grounding and helps lower anxiety during high-friction parts of the day.

The First-Then Method

Our tool is built on the "First-Then" principle. This strategy is widely used in special education to create structure and motivation.
